“WARRIORS WITH SICKLE CELL”

Another warrior is gone. I have been consoling Bisola, hoping she feels better over the lose of our leader mama Kemi.

It has always been a tough time for we warriors, but as much as we are aware of the battles we fight daily and our unchangable fate which lies ahead,we do not give rooms for self pity and sympathies. Especially those we call mere humans.

We know too well to be prepared for the best, be expectant of the worst, reciting the words of hope, give a shoulder to the weak to cry on and providing strength to the feeble ones among us even though we needed it the most.

Kemi was like a mother and a sister to us. She also being a sickle cell warrior made us see values in our existence beyond our faults.

“We are not like them. They can never be like us because they are humans but we are warriors.” she fondly said.

She had survived many attacks than the ones i had ever had. And seeing her rise again after each defeat heightened my faith and that of others with a good reason to fight on.

“If Mama Kemi could die, who knows who is next?” Bisola lamented with tears flooding her cheeks.

The question of who is next can’t be answered by the radiant looks on our face but the deadness of our blood. I could predict mama Kemi answer to Bisola’s question.

“I am the next because death hate warriors who are daring”. Her smiles and words would complement themselves so well, our heart will leap in faith.

She must had fought a great fight against death. A fight i knew she won until death cheated.

“Don’t forget what mama keji 09do say. It is normal to cry when you are hurt and when you are in pain, but don’t ever cry because God made you more than a human”, I muttered, suppressing Bisola sobs with words.

All eyes darted me,hoping to find Kemi in my words and action. I wished she was here to fill in the void but I knew too well not be a weakling for a warrior.

Now i continued from where she stopped. Educating them, comforting them, compelling them to pursue their dreams and caring for their needs like she did.

I live each day of my life like it is my last, yet encouraging others to live theirs without worries because why, that is what warriors do…
